For some of us, spring is simply an indication that summer will soon follow but in Bordeaux, this means en primeur. During en primeur, chateaux will allow journalists, negociants and certain members of the trade, barrel taste the previous vintage, in this case, 2017. The region has rebounded from the downward spiral of 2011, 2012 and 2013 but 2017 was hit with the worst frost in 25 years. The frost which was most severe on the right bank hit April 26th and 27th. It seems as though the left bank was left unscathed especially in the upper Medoc.
